About The Portland Scene
The Portland Scene is a website with a simple purpose: to make it easy to find something to do in Portland, OR. Why Portland? Because Portland rules, and it deserves a website where us cool folks can find something to do. Unlike Craigslist, Citysearch, or PortlandMusicians.com, theportlandscene.com is a true online community: people can post blogs, share pictures, find places to go, and stuff to do.
ThePortlandScene.com was conceived in a fit of frustration in the fall of 2005, as I used CitySearch for the thousandth time, and hated it for the thousandth time. "Why does this have to be this difficult?" I muttered. It shouldn't be. It shouldn't be more than two clicks to find something within walking distance of your house, or to find a local rock show, or check out which coffee shops are open right now. So I decided to make theportlandscene.com.
If you look around, you'll see that theportlandscene.com has grown a bit since my initial idea of "CitySearch that doesn't suck™" In addition to places and events (both of which can be posted by anyone!) we've got blogs, pictures, favorites, and a members gallery. We've got merchandise (with more on the way.) But I've created all of it with the same simple goal in mind.
Q. What's this I keep hearing about "points"?
A. Points are a way to designate strong contributors to theportlandscene.com. Anything you do at the site, including promoting it to others, registering, posting comments, blogs, pictures, events and/or places, will get you points. In the future, points will become the currency of the website, but for now, they basically are just there to designate your level of interest - the more points you have, the more kickass person you are!
So, with that in mind, I'll let you explore the site. I hope you find it fun and useful. Got any questions, complaints or requests? I'd love to hear about them. Send me some feedback.
